Sport is at the heart of school life providing every student with the opportunity to fulfil their dreams and aspirations in the embodiment of the school’s motto ‘Love as Brethren’.
Extensive and well maintained grounds enable a wide variety of sports to be played with over fifty extra-curricular clubs available to all students. The curriculum provides the students with the opportunity to develop their skills, understanding and interest in a whole host of sporting experiences.
The department consists of seven highly qualified and enthusiastic physical education teachers ably supported by a number of specialist sports coaches. This wealth of experience allows students to have the opportunities to compete at house, district, county, regional, national and even international level.
Our inclusive extra-curricular programme is also an outstanding venue for older students to experience leadership opportunities and we have a legacy of exceptional sports captains who assist the department with the mentoring of younger pupils providing sporting role models.
The department is committed to broadening the sporting horizons of our young people and we enjoy the privileges of taking students on a variety of sporting tours both at home and abroad. These memorable experiences give our students exposure to sport in a new environment as well as a cultural immersion.
At the heart of our philosophy is the desire to provide each of our students with the opportunity to access high quality physical education in our warm and friendly community. We firmly believe that learning extends beyond the classroom and everyone is encouraged to participate to develop their skills and also to understand the importance of an active healthy lifestyle and the value of working as part of a team.
The purpose of the high-quality curriculum is to inspire students to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It provides opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness whilst building character and helping to embed values such as fairness and respect.
Key Stage 3
学生们 all participate in 2 hours a week of physical education.
The girls curriculum consists of; netball, hockey, swimming, badminton, fitness, gymnastics, trampolining, dance, athletics, rounders and tennis.
The boys programme of study consists of; rugby, basketball, hockey, gymnastics, trampolining, fitness, badminton, swimming, athletics, cricket and tennis.
In year 7 and 8 all students follow a prescribed curriculum whilst in year 9 there is an opportunity to select activities as part of their sporting pathway.
All students take part in a series of inter house competitions in a variety of sports across the year.
Key Stage 4
All students participate in 2 hours a week of physical activity. The programme of study in these lessons is wide and varied with students experiencing traditional and non-traditional sports.
In addition some students will choose to study Edexcel GCSE physical education. This is a multi-faceted course which incorporates both academic and physical aspects whilst providing the unique opportunity to be active while learning. 学生们 are examined at the end point of the two year course in two theory papers, three sports and one written assessment.
Key Stage 5
All students participate in 1 hour a week of enrichment including physical education in order to broaden their key stage 5 experience.
In addition some students will choose to study OCR A level physical education. Like GCSE this is a multi-faceted course which incorporates both academic and physical aspects. The progamme of study consists of; anatomy, physiology, psychology, sociology, history and skill acquisition. 学生们 are examined at the end point of the two year course in three theory papers, one sport and one oral assessment.

All students are encouraged to attend extra-curricular clubs throughout the year.
GCSE and A level physical education students are required to build upon their academic knowledge through regular homework tasks. These may consist of essay based questions, research based work and preparation for assessements.
